New competition theme

Our competition theme for April to June 2024 is Rough.

From your rough first draft, to a rough day at the office; from a rough diamond to a golf ball in the rough. Your character might only roughly know where they’re going, or might be too rough with their best friend and hurt them. ‘Rough’ might refer to a surface, someone’s skin, their voice; it might allude to rough justice, sleeping rough, or taking the rough with the smooth. We look forward to seeing what you come up with!

As usual, the word limit is 500 words, we're open to any style, genre or form (including poetry, non-fiction, fiction, and scripts). We've kept the submission fee at £4 per piece, or it's free if you've attended one of our events in the last year. The deadline for this theme is 30th June 2024.

Online Feedback Group

Each week this online group reads and discusses one person's work, so it's the perfect opportunity to progress your project. Focusing on creative non-fiction but including fiction, academic writing, poetry and scripts, the group is open to all writers, anywhere in the world. There is no pressure to submit your own work, you can attend to read work by like-minded individuals and join in the discussion. All welcome.

Fourth Floor anthology update

If you submitted a story for this anthology back in 2023, you should now have heard back from me over the last few days with the outcome (please check your spam if you can't find it). We had 23 submissions for the book, of which 18 were accepted. We look forward to working with the authors on the next stage of putting the book together.
